Ahead of his 50th anniversary tour, Sarah spoke to Uli Jon Roth about his upcoming concerts, Sky Guitars and more...

Following the G3 UK and European Tour with Joe Satriani and John Petrucci, former Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth is embarking on a UK tour this November and December.

He will be joined by the brilliant Kaleb McKane for the 50th anniversary concerts:

“I thought he was very interesting - his music and performance is very high quality and he’s a great addition to the tour”.

The tour encompasses Uli’s career, including songs by The Scorpions, Electric Sun and Sky of Avalon:

“It’s an ambitious programme. The show is about two and a half hours long with an intermission, but it’s fresh and exciting. There’s music from my days in Scorpions, Electric Sun and also Sky of Avalon.

In the second half of the show I also play two songs by my brother Zeno, who has sadly passed away. He was an incredible song writer and guitarist”.

As we talk, Uli tells me more about the influence his friends and family have had on his life and his love of music:

“My friend Bernd introduced The Beatles’ music to me and he used to sing ‘She loves you’ all the time. He also had band and that’s how I started playing guitar”.

Now fifty years later, Uli’s music and iconic guitar playing continues to thrill audiences across the world.

Not only an incredible musician, Uli has also launched his UJR Sky Guitars Website, with guitar ranges including Pegasus, Aquila and Unicorn Sky Guitars.

The Flamenco Sky Guitar is one of the range to feature in the upcoming 50th anniversary concerts:

“Each guitar is made of different wood and have different abilities. The Flamenco Sky Guitar, which I perform a fifteen minute piece on during the show, has seven strings. It sounds like a vast, wide orchestra”.
