      Strike me down!

      Strike me down!
I write this on the eve of our Sunday home game with Stevenage as literally hundreds of Rovers fans heed the clubs call to get the damn snow off the pitch. As I write Prenton park is a blur of spades and wheelbarrows as the faithful clear the pitch.

It got me thinking that a significant number still believe, still think this excruciating season can end in glory, still see us as in with a big chance of going into the Championship, albeit via the play offs instead of the automatic promotion that seemed such a real possibility not very long ago.

Oh may the gods of Birkenhead strike me down but I just can’t see it. Ronnie has spoken of a lack of desire during our recent run of defeats and that, coupled with our decimated team, will probably do for us going anywhere this year.

Robbo and Wallace still out, every week the team seems cobbled together, no flow, no morale and a bottom line that screams ‘just not good enough’. Again I really don’t blame the lads we have in, some of them will go on to be cracking players but we simply couldn’t sustain the losses we’ve had from our primo team at the start of the season.

You can’t blame Ronnie either but after the shocking way he was sacked last time he’s well within his rights to constantly look over his shoulder. It doesn’t help my black mood that we have big games with fellow promotion chasers such as Sheffield United and Doncaster Rovers coming up, we seem to be easy pickings at this point in the season for those with real pretensions of going up.

So there you go, an incredibly pessimistic update this time around but this is football and Tranmere can never be second guessed, win the four remaining home games and who knows?! Oh shut up Ian, stop dreaming and just deal with having all that promise of a legendary season going down the drain.
