Liverpool Sound City 2015: The Havocs perform an outstanding set

Liverpool Sound City 2015 has begun in grand style. Gracing the stairs of the Titanic Hotel, one of their stages can be heard echoing throughout the venue, playing host to some of the best new talent from across the country. Amongst the acts today was the brilliant alternative band The Havocs – and we loved every minute of their performance.

With their powerful and rasping voices, you’d be fooled into thinking that they were a group who had been touring the gig circuits for decades. However The Havocs, who performed a phenomenal acoustic set, are some of the most promising young musicians on the scene at the moment. Their harmonies were incredibly tight, comparable to the infamous Beatles duo of Lennon and McCartney. I was simply in awe.

The set included a great cover of The La’s ‘Timeless Melody’, which suited their voices well. However it was their latest song, ‘Tales from Tokyo’ that really caught your attention. It was a slightly melancholic but beautiful number. The intense lyrics were echoed through their facial expressions, showing their passion for the song. Although having humorously admitted that neither Joe nor Lowell had visited Tokyo, this well-written ballad is one to listen out for in the future.

The Havocs look set to be one of the most promising acts of 2015. They might be called The Havocs, but their performances are anything but. Absolutely incredible.
