      Horrible Histories

      Horrible Histories
Having grown up reading the Horrible Histories books by Terry Deary, I was absolutely thrilled when they were adapted into a television series. Aired on CBBC, Horrible Histories is currently in its fifth season run of entertaining children and adults alike with its witty and intelligent take on history.

Comprised of sketches and hosted by lovable puppet Ratus Ratus, the show takes you on a journey through the Stone Age, Georgian and Egyptian Eras, in addition to a whole host of time periods. Emulating popular programmes such as Don’t tell the Bride, Masterchef and Wife Swap, Horrible Histories provides memorable pop culture settings for all its historical knowledge. Watch out for particular favourites ‘Historical Apprentice’ and ‘Historical Movie pitch’ (featuring cameos from comedians such as Reece Shearsmith).

Of course, the bounty in these comedy jewels has to be the regular songs. This series has so far treated viewers to parodies of Dizzee Rascal, Kylie Minogue and The Smiths, which aside from being fantastically funny are also educational.

Author Terry Deary, the Horrible Histories cast and everyone who has made this programme possible should be commended for the show’s superb attention to detail, comic genius and above all, educating audiences about the world’s fascinating history.

I highly recommend Horrible Histories to anyone, no matter your age. If you were a fan of shows such as Maid Marian and her Merry Men, then this programme is a must see - educational entertainment show that all the family can enjoy.
