Excitement builds for Rewind North 2016!

Rewind has become a festival favourite with audiences across the UK. Featuring everyone from Boy George, to OMD, Kim Wilde and more, Rewind has since expanded to include concerts across the globe and now they’re ready to bring the fun to you at Rewind North!

This year’s stellar line up includes non-other than the Queen of High-NRG Hazel Dean, who is performing at Rewind festivals across the country, including Rewind North on Saturday 6th August. Speaking ahead of the festival, Dean commented:

“I’ll be performing ‘Who’s leaving who’ and ‘Searching’ - it’s fantastic fun! It’ll be very energetic and I hope everyone sings along and has fun along the way!”

Looking back on her incredible career, Hazel recalls ‘Searching’ and her subsequent hit ‘Whatever I do’, produced by Stock, Aitken and Waterman, with much fondness:

“Searching was a big club hit, but when we re-released it, it was a big chart hit. Pete Waterman asked me what I was up to and it all happened so quickly. He asked me to come to the studio, where he, Mick and Matt were working on a backing track for Divine’s ‘Think you’re a man’. They played me the backing track to “Whatever I do” and I really liked it. We turned it around and it was a top five hit! It was great fun”.

Hazel’s set will kickstart the Saturday, followed by highly anticipated performances from Annabella’s Bow Wow Wow, From the Jam, Go West, Midge Ure, UB40 and Marc Almond, to name a few! If that wasn’t enough, closing the Saturday night will be none other than Adam Ant.

Leading up to Adam’s set there will be a homage to two music greats, who we sadly lost earlier this year: David Bowie and Prince. Legendary Blitz DJ Rusty Egan will be hosting a tribute to two musicians who truly inspired generations of fans, including those performing at the festival. Reflecting on Rusty Egan’s set, Rewind founder David Heartfield commented:

“We thought this would be a way to mark their passing; a sort of nod to them. Rusty [Egan] seemed the right one for the set, as he was one of the Blitz Kids with Steve Strange. Steve of course was in Bowie’s Ashes to Ashes video. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some more Bowie tributes in the performances throughout the festival. That’s the fun of live performance; you never know what to expect”.

The live performances continue on Sunday 7th August, with the incredible ensemble that is the British Electric Foundation featuring The Noisette’s Shingai Shoniwa, Joy Divisions Peter Hook, Heaven 17’s Glenn Gregory, Thomas Dolby, The Lotus Eaters and Mari Wilson. Expect classic songs you know and love, reworked in electronic style and ready to have you cheering for more.

The line-up keeps up the momentum with performances from music icons including Nik Kershaw, Hazel O’ Connor and Paul Carrack. They’ll be joined by Rick Astley, who recently scored a number one album with 50, and many more incredible artists along the way including The Christians, Earth, Wind and Fire Experience and former Rainbow Lead Singer Joe Lynn Turner. Closing the evening is none other than the legendary Tom Bailey (Thompson Twins), who released his debut solo single ‘Come so far’ earlier this year. With hits including ‘Doctor! Doctor!’ and ‘Hold me now’, there’ll be plenty of songs for you to join in with throughout the evening.

Over the two days the line-up looks set to be one of the best yet at Rewind North, with David Heartfield recalling the hard-work that goes into making the festival possible:

We decide on the acts a long way in front. Once the festivals finish at the end of August, there’s a small break and then we’re back in September to start again. It runs from September to Christmas time - there’s lots of phone calls. We’re always trying to find new acts to add to the bill; for example this year Tom Bailey [Thompson Twins] is headlining the Sunday night and last year, his performance at Rewind South was his first debut solo gig in twenty seven years”.

Around the performances, you can also expect top-quality entertainment across the festival site, including a live karaoke bar, fun fair, theme bars, a kid zone and posh nosh. If that wasn’t enough, there’s even a chance to trying ‘Glamping’ (Glamourous Camping), in addition to regular camping options. If you are camping, then why not join the fancy dress school disco on Friday 5th August, hosted by non-other than iconic presenter Pat Sharp!

With all this and more, Rewind North 2016 is one of the most exciting, dynamic festivals of the year. Set in the beautiful grounds of Capesthorne Hall, Cheshire and ideal for all the family, this non-stop weekend promises to be spectacular.
